About the Writer

Jill Priest  – writer, singer, actor, choreographer and director – has had a life-time of experience in Musical Theatre. Born near Sheffield, she grew up performing in variety shows and pantomimes, continued her love of theatre and dance throughout her time at Durham University, then went on to study Acting & Musical Theatre at Mountview Theatre School. She worked professionally as an actor for a couple of years before starting a family. Jill began writing songs for young children and developed a series of shows for primary-aged children, called KERPOW!, which featured ‘pop songs’ with child-friendly lyrics.

Recognising the need for modern, quality Christmas productions suitable for large casts, Jill wrote AlterNativity specifically to give every child in a year of 90 a role to play! She directed the show for Year 6 of Fleetville Junior School, St Albans, in 2009, and went on to revise and refine the musical over the next few years when it was performed by arrangement with other local groups and churches, culminating in a production in Christmas 2012 at the Maltings Arts Theatre, St Albans, by the OVOTeens, a group of 10-14 year olds. (It is this performance on the Demo DVD.)  It was after the overwhelming success of this production that Jill responded to requests to publish the musical for others to perform. So now it’s your turn!
